100-Word Introduction
Anirudha Joshi is Associate Professor in the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay. He teaches and does research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) design. His area of research interest is interaction design for users in developing economies. He also works in the area overlapping between software engineering and HCI. He has authored papers related to HCI in Indian and international conferences and journals. Anirudha conducts workshops on HCI for IT professionals and is also a consultant to several IT companies on HCI projects. He was the co-chair of the program committee of the first India HCI conference held in December, 2004 in Bangalore.

Before joining IIT Bombay, Anirudha worked in the field of interaction design for software, multimedia and the Internet. Anirudha has a BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay, and a Masters in Design in Visual Communication also from IIT Bombay.

Anirudha Joshi is Associate Professor in the Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Bombay. He works in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) design, education and research in India. He teaches courses related to HCI to students of Design, Computer Science and Information Technology at IIT Bombay. He also conducts HCI related courses in academic institutions all over India. He was one of the first teachers to bring in usability techniques and ethnographic user studies to HCI design education in India.

Anirudha does research in the field of interaction design for users in developing economies. He is in the Interfaces for All group funded by Media Labs Asia. He also works in the area overlapping between software engineering and HCI. He has authored papers related to HCI and given talks in Indian and international conferences. Recently, he was co-chair of the program committee of the India HCI 2004 conference held in December, 2004.

Anirudha interacts with the Indian IT industry regularly. He conducts open workshops on HCI for the professionals and internal training programs for individual companies. He is a consultant to several companies and helps them develop a user-centered design approach to product development. He helps IT companies to integrate their internal software design processes with the usability engineering processes.

Before joining IIT Bombay, Anirudha worked as a designer for six years. He made educational films, computer based training programs, designed interfaces for software products, multimedia CD ROMs and web sites.

Originally a BTech (1989) in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay, he went ahead to do his Masters in Design (1992), specializing in the field of Visual Communication. This mix of engineering and design background has given him a unique perspective in the multi-disciplinary field of HCI.
