In 2022–23, when colleges started their operations in physical mode, the IITB-UMA team conducted a pilot of the APAV programme in selected colleges from the Konkan region affiliated to Mumbai University.
This pilot included conducting workshops for faculty members and providing handholding to the students in conducting case studies. In all, the IITB-UMA team conducted two workshops for the faculty members.
The first workshop was an orientation workshop where the faculty members were introduced to the idea of APAV.
The second workshop was on the methodology where the designing aspects of the topics were discussed.
At the end of the exercise, students who participated in APAV and conducted case studies, presented their work at a presentation workshop held at Chiplun in March 2023.
This pilot witnessed participation of about 250 students from 14 colleges who prepared about 40 different case studies on various topics such as solid waste management, agriculture and fishing, water quality and salinity, health expenditure, and more.
Given that this was the first attempt by the students at conducting such case studies, the output of this pilot was very satisfactory. The participating students got out of their classrooms and studied topics from their surroundings. Their learning was evident from the reports as well as the presentations made at the workshop.
