Stochastic optimization of enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic
biomass
Lignocellulose is an abundant and
renewable fuel source which can be
hydrolysed to glucose. The hydrolysis product, glucose has
wide range of
applications including fermentation to ethanol, substrate for
antibiotics
(eg:penicillin), aminoacids. Inorder to make lignocellulose based
products
economical optimization is essential. Optimization can be done by
using
models which represent the hydrolysis behaviour including the
inhibitory
effect of lignin, xylose, degradation products, hydrolysis
products.
Moreover, the composition of the lignocellulosic feedstock is not
uniform
but varies with species, cultivation environment, rainfall, method
of
harvesting and storage. The current research will be focussing on
the
optimization of enzymatic hydrolysis in presence of variability
like variability in feedstock, kinetic parameters and enzyme
activity.
