    Research:

    Stochastic modelling and optimization of lignocellulosic feedstock pre-treatment

    Lignocellulose, mainly exist in the form of plant materials, is one of the most abundant and sustainable organic compound in the nature. Ethanol production from lignocellulosic feedstock consists of series of processes namely pre-treatment, enzyme hydrolysis, fermentation and separation. From past few decades people have done extensive research on pre-treatment processes, such as steam explosion, Ammonia fibre explosion (AFEX), CO2 explosion, Ozonolysis, Acid and alkaline hydrolysis, and Ionic liquids.

    In processing of ethanol from lignocellulosic feedstock, various sources of uncertainty have been observed such as compositional variability, process performance, production conditions and market conditions. Some inherent variability is also present in the feedstock such as ash content, moisture and particle morphology. This variability in feedstock composition has a significant impact on the process outputs. The major objective of the research includes robust design, optimization and control of pre-treatment processes for the production of ethanol from lignocellulosic feedstock using methods from stochastic modelling, optimization and control.

    Experience under curriculum:

    Worked for SRF Ltd., Gurgaon as Project and R&D Trainee from Jan 2012 to June 2012 under the curriculum of “Practice School” offered by BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus as a part of my M.Tech. degree. The project, titled “Involvement and Assistance in Designing & Detailing of processes at R&D”, includes initial stage of process synthesis and designing of fluorinated speciality products.
