Coupled Multi-Modal Simulation
The Co-Simulation Vertical at IIT Bombay features a state-of-the-art facility designed to replicate the complex, non-lane-based traffic dynamics characteristic of India. This facility features four high-fidelity simulators that cover the full spectrum of Indian road users, including trucks, cars, two-wheelers, bicycles, and pedestrians.
A distinguishing feature of this infrastructure is its advanced co-simulation capability, which interconnects these disparate simulators into a single, unified virtual environment.
This allows multiple human participants to interact simultaneously, enabling all road users interact with each other in real-time, and thus facilitating the study of heterogeneous traffic interactions with unprecedented realism.
1. Truck simulator
TecknoSIM Truck Driving Simulator by Tecknotrove Systems replicates real truck driving with authentic hardware including pedals, multi-speed shifters, gauges, switches, and force-feedback steering. Immersive 120°-180° displays and 3DOF/6DOF motion platforms simulate acceleration, vibrations, terrains, traffic, and weather for realistic training in eco-driving, defensive maneuvers, and hazard handling.
2. Car simulator
Car Driving Simulator by Viswire uses a real car console with pedals, steering, gearbox, gauges, and switches, paired with 120°-180° displays and 3DOF/6DOF motion for lifelike physics across city, highway, off-road, and adverse conditions. AI software delivers progressive modules for eco-driving, emergencies, and safety, generating reports and replays for OEMs, fleets, police, and schools to cut risks and boost skills.
3. Bike simulator
TecknoSIM Motorcycle (Bike) Simulator by Tecknotrove Systems features a real motorbike chassis with authentic controls like brakes, clutch, accelerator, gear shifter, switches, and ignition, mounted on a 3DOF/6DOF electric motion platform for realistic feedback on acceleration, turns, vibrations, and road obstacles. It offers 180° immersive LED screens, AI traffic with 100+ vehicles/pedestrians, varied terrains, weather, and scenarios for defensive riding, hazard training, and licensing tests, with automated evaluations and instructor tools.
4. Bicycle simulator
A Bicycle Simulator by Viswire uses real bicycle designed to provide an immersive, interactive cycling experience that replicates real-world biking conditions for training, research purposes. This user manual offers step-by-step guidance for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting the simulator, ensuring an optimal user experience.
5. Pedestrian simulator
A Pedestrian Simulator by Viswire uses a Oculus Quest VR headset for 360° immersive environments with built-in audio cues. A Virtualizer Elite 2 Powered Motion Platform (PMP) with six 1000 Hz optical sensors tracks walking speed and movement precisely.
