This is a full-time Research Assistant position at IIT Bombay, with the intent of transitioning into the PhD program under the TAP (Teaching/Research Assistantship through Project) category. The position is offered in collaboration with a leading global automotive company. The research will be conducted both at IIT Bombay and at the industry partner’s R&D facility in Bangalore, under the guidance of academic and industry experts. The project aims to develop a cutting-edge scenario generation framework using a combination of:

• Autonomous vehicle simulation (CARLA)
• Reinforcement learning for safety-critical scenarios
• Ontology-based modelling of Operational Design Domains (ODD)
• Generative AI techniques (LLMs, GANs, diffusion models)

• This position is pivotal in driving the development of state-of-the-art robotics and autonomous systems while ensuring continuity and operational excellence in a dynamic, student-driven research environment.
• In this role, you will act as the technical backbone of UMIC, bridging the gap between short-term student projects and the lab’s long-term vision.
• You will oversee ongoing research, maintain project continuity as team members graduate, and manage critical technical and operational aspects of the lab.

Real-Time Traffic Simulation with Integration of Live Sensor Data

This project aims to build a real-time traffic simulation platform that integrates live or recorded sensor data (e.g., from loop detectors, CCTV, or GPS devices) to dynamically simulate traffic on selected road networks using open-source tools like SUMO. The simulation will allow for real-time visualization, analysis, and short-term forecasting of traffic conditions. This project can serve as a stepping stone toward adaptive traffic management systems tailored to Indian urban scenarios.
