The IIT Bombay - PoCRA project conducted from 2020 to 2024, under the Nanaji Deshmukh Krushi Sanjeevani Project, studied aspects related to agricultural pumping systems covering the following aspects: farmers' problems, agricultural power infrastructure, the relationship between cropping patterns and electricity demand, unauthorized agricultural pumps, and delays in obtaining electricity connections.

Based on this study, IIT has proposed solutions to reduce farmers' difficulties and expenses, improving the efficiency of the power system, reducing power leakage, lowering maintenance costs for Mahavitaran, and reducing government expenditure per electricity connection. Several recommendations were made. These recommendations were shared in a policy directive to the District Superintending Agricultural Officers, and Project Directors, ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency), for the 15 districts under the PoCRA project.

Directives covered holding rabi and kharif seasonal meetings to discuss electricity related problems, promote Demand side Management solutions such as usage of capacitors and Load Management, MSEDCL representatives such as Junior Engineer to be invited to the meetings, record the status and maintenance of Distribution Transformers in a village.
