Residential Electricity Demand Modeling
Renewable energy integration on the grid has become imperative and the generation component of renewables in the country has increased substantially over the last decade. The diurnal and seasonal variation entails that strategies such as storage or demand response need to be implemented to ensure a stable and economical integration. In this project we look at residential demand, mainly rural, to identify and evaluate the potential of demand response. Several academic projects are ongoing. IIT Bombay has an MoU with Tata Power for Demand modeling with studies being done on residential smart meter data. A collaboration with Columbia University on this topic to investigate for Mumbai residential consumers, the temperature and overall consumption as factors in demand.
