Literature Background - BTP and MSc projects 2015-16
When in doubt, refer to the IEEE encyclopedia. Any person found referring to Wikipedia will be impolitely escorted out of the lab.

Electronics for particle detectors - basic and advanced concepts
[MUST READ] Lecture Notes by Helmuth Spieler on Design of readout electronics:
- Analog and digital design
- Timing considerations.
- See also Helmuth Spieler's homepage with many other tutorials.
- An expanded version of the lecture notes has been published in e-book format
Semiconductor Detector Systems by Oxford University Press (2007). It is available
through the IIT-B central library. Chapter 9 of the e-book is especially usefully once you start building things in the lab.
- Semiconductor radiation detectors: device physics by Gerhard Lutz (Springer 1999) is another good book on the intrinsic
detector response of semiconductors. Paper copies are available for issue in the IITB central library.
Diamond as a semiconductor detector sample
(Added August 20, 2015)
- Principle of energy loss of charged particles in any detector material by ionization.
Chapter 2 from William Leo's textbook :
Techniques of Nuclear and Particle Physics
[MUST KNOW] Bethe-Bloch energy loss in thin materials; Landau-Vavilov distribution of dE/dx
- A review of Diamond detector development for LHC from the RD42 collaboration.
The RD42 collaboration website links to many relevant publications.
- In particular, the Transient current technique detailed here
is used to extract fast current signals and characterize the properties of a diamond detector sample.
